Heading North from Orleans Cycle into Eastham, the Rail Trail continues 9 miles ending in South Wellfleet.
As soon as you pedal over the highway bridge you descend into the most scenic part of the trail. Flat smooth miles with views of salt marshes and the option to head out to several ocean beaches.
For families with young children looking for an afternoon on the trail with the promise of ice-cream & mini-golf, a trip to Arnolds is always a winner. If the line looks never ending or you are looking for something different
Ben & Jerrys, Sam's Deli, Nauset Ice Cream and the Friendly Fisherman all within range of each other just ahead on Brackett Road
If you save your appetite and choose to go the full distance to Wellfleet you will be rewarded with a delicious pastry from the french bakery or a fabulous sandwich from the newly renovated Wellfleet General Store.
For the truly determined with a whole day to ride, continue right at the end of the trail and head to the Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow for a steak tip sandwich and a Goombay Smash or all the way out to the pier in Wellfleet to Mac's or Pearl for some of the freshest sea critters you've ever tasted.
(you may need a ride home after this though, great martinis!)
If it is the Ocean you seek, head North from Orleans Cycle into Eastham for 3.5 miles and look for the Locust Road crossing.
Take a RIGHT onto Locust and tackle the only big hill you will encounter. At the crest of the hill turn LEFT onto Salt Pond Rd.
cross RT.6 at the light and stay straight onto the Nauset Bike Trail. If you need a stretch lock up your bikes at the visitors center and take a walk around Salt Pond.
